When I was an undergrad, my friend Hannah and I would spend hours listening to music that she had found on the wonderful interweb via MySpace.
This was the good stuff.
The stuff that no one had heard of in our itty bitty rural Arkansas town.
The stuff that her friends in Califormia (which always seemed even cooler when we called in "Cali") had already heard of and had usually seem in person.
The stuff that I fell in love with as soon as she said, "Listen to this."
So six years later, I missed the feeling of falling in love with new music on a regular basis so imagine my excitement when I stumbled across The Music Ninja. Here was an amazing site that actually specializes in that music that "no one" has heard yet. And no, I don't like everything they have. (Dubstep really isn't my thing.) But The Indie Dojo that comes out every few weeks: Ah. Mazing. Seriously guys, you have to listen to this stuff.
And the "new" people that I heard via The Music Ninja? Now some of them are top 40 gold (see Gotye above), some of them are cult favorites (Lana Del Ray) and some of them are just really good (The Wooden Sky sings straight to my soul!).
What about you guys? Any favorite ways to get "tuned in" to good music?
