When it comes to graduation I think of three things: weird hats, wrinkled robes, and funkily (yes, I just made up that word) wrapped gifts.
What?!? You guys don't think the same thing? Well you should. Here's how.
As I hinted toward earlier this morning I adore kraft wrapped gifts*. They allow the wrapper to totally put their own spin on the gift inside or personalized for the giftee (second made-up word of the day.)
*Clarifier: I love pretty paper of any sort. Kraft is just my thing at this moment.
{Please excuse today's photos. It was incredibly late [think "waking up roommates with the sound of wrapping paper crackles" late] and my iPhone editing looked superb at 2am...
Also- The gift inside is being kept secret on purpose. My graduating homies have yet to graduate. Some of them actually claim to occasionally visit this little blog so I'd hate to ruin any surprise.}
Because I worked retail in high school I consider myself a capable wrapper, but it's always the bows that are the most fun. For this I used hemp rope as well as red and pink chunky yarn. I had a southwestern-esque card that you'll see later and I used the rope and the yarn to bring in the color I wanted plus fun texture. (Bonus: According to Riffraff neon+ neutral = hot.)
You will need a lot of whatever material youi decided to use for a bow. By "a lot" I mean I stood up and the rope/yarn was as long as I am tall (I'm 5'4" before heels). My "package" dimensions were approximately 1inch think x 10 inches long x 8 inches wide. Because I am the world's worst mathematician blogger I will leave the proportion/ ratio up to someone else but my rule of thumb is "I'd rather have too much than have a crappy bow."
Find the midway point of your (incredibly long) rope/yarn combo and place it on the spot where you want your bow to eventually land.
Flip over your package and loop one end over the other (i.e. the first part of tying your shoes) an then rotate ninety degree and do the exact same thing when you flip it over on the front. (I realize these are not the best descriptions so please please please feel free to use the comments below if you have any questions.)
Now, just tie a bow. Just like you would tie your Converse. Easy.
{Insert angelic voices singing their praises of awesomeness here.}
I like how it turned out. And yes: With the red and pink and a rogue heart sticker it leans a little toward the Valentine's Day side... but I'm giving these as graduation presents to people who I really do love so I say call my presents off-season if you so choose. I will most likely not be listening.
{The card which is tucked in says "Happy Trails." I've been very southwestern motif inspired phase lately and threw this together with a (questionable) black and white printer from the school and a set of markers. Don't judge- I still really like markers.}
This is how I do graduation gift wrapping. How do you?
