Spring is a funny season in college. Actually every season while surrounded by 18-25 year olds on a regular basis is pretty odd but spring especially. And yes, it seems a bit contradictory; one would expect that the beginning of the year (fall semester) to be the busy with newness, but it's actually spring when "everything" is happening: new appointments to new positions for the kids that are sticking around and new jobs/ new futures for the new graduates. Heck, even the title "commencement" speaks to this: Stuff is just getting started!
I have so much that is on the brink of happening that "commencement" is an easy state of mind to get in this year. But I've been in the "real world" & I know how easy it is to float from one season to the next in a temperature controlled cubicle where the only indication of the seasons is given by the decor of the napkins at the latest office party.
My point is, I want to keep this mindset. I want to make sure that I don't let that feeling of springtime excitement pass. Even if it's just starting a garden or just signing up for a cooking class over the summer, or just attending the first ball game of the season...
How do you guys celebrate and keep your excitement for the upcoming year fresh?? I want a tradition I will be able to keep in the upcoming years.
