As a precursor I would like to start by asserting that I am in no way affiliated with Nike nor am I trying to steal any of their money-making-thunder by using the blog title above.
Now that that is out of the way:
I already posted once today to share a piece of local prettiness but since I took the picture and had those thoughts yesterday I counted that entry for... not-today. {smile}
Today I was thinking about blogging. Well technically I was thinking about a lot of things: school assignments and work to-do lists and making sure I had an outfit to Zumba in... but mostly I was thinking about blogging. Today was Day #2 of Elise's Blog 2.0 Workshop and our assignment was to start thinking about a framework for our (soon to be) blog design. Normally when someone says "Start thinking" about one thing or the other, I end up thinking about the assigned "thing" approximately... 2.7 seconds... and then start thinking about something totally different.
She also had a (timely for me) personal blog post on staying inspired about how she manages to keep things fresh both in her blog and her life. The last piece of advice was simply "Just make stuff". She said that making both good "stuff" and garbage were what motivated her to keep going since {paraphrasing} often you've got to work through the bad to get to the good.
This inspired me to do two things:
First: Actually work on (as opposed "think about") my blog design.
It felt really good to actually put something on paper and out of my head. I think it took some of the mystique out of it in a way. Instead of "I'm being a fancy schmancy web designer, look at me design," I felt more like, "I'm drawing squares on a piece of paper I took out of the recycling box at work... and I've been drawing squares for years."
Second: In the same article, she mentioned setting challenges. This, coupled with the "just do it" advice made me realize that I was going to need a goal to get this blogging thing started.
So with now further ado I present {insert trumpet announcing music}
100X100
-or-
For the first 100 days of this blog I want to write at least 100 words a day, hence "100X100" And it can be anything: A recap of my day, how frustrated I am about a certain project at school, something about my amazing boyfriend, a new recipe, my latest traveling adventure, a particularly long grocery list...
The purpose is to get myself in the habit of blogging. And taking pictures. And thinking out-loud to a massive potential audience and potentially having no one but my mom actually read it. And being okay with that last thing. {smile}
This {insert number of interesting things} in {insert number of catchy days} is not a new concept. In fact, Ms. Elise (who will certainly win the "most linked" category in this particular post) has her own 40 Loaves and 26 Projects. And Elsie Larson (who I've been in craftylove with since I found her blog in 2009) had her 28 before 29. And everyone's favorite affordable (and incredibly cool) art site 20x200. I'm saying all this to say- I'm not trying to steal ideas- just take other people's inspiration and make something of my own. Because, as both Ephesians's and Mr.Kleon claim, "There is nothing new under the sun, so steal like an artist."
Or something like that...
So I'm treating this as Day#2, since I've already explained the "yesterday's post" thing above. (And you thought that was irrelevant, didn't you?!?)
Thanks for joining my journey!
p.s. The font that is in my (hopefully) temporary image is "Wisdom Script" which I found at Lost Type Co-Op and am absolutely IN. LOVE. WITH. IT. (I am a closet font-ophile and pretty lettering makes me happy.) It's an amazing website coupled with an amazing concept. You should probably go look so you can be happy too.
